The cities of Bath in GB and Braunschweig in Germany were officially twinned in April 1971, although a friendship between the two cities had existed since 1951. Over the years many citizens of Bath have benefitted from exchanges between the two cities, these being mainly of a sporting or musical nature, although individual visits and educational exchanges have also been supported. These contacts have led to many lasting friendships and even to marriage! The current committee of the twinning association consists of many people who have previously enjoyed such visits and who have an interest in cultural, professional and social links with Germany. The group aims to assist present and future generations of Bathonians to enjoy the same chances of getting to know our German neighbours and to promote an understanding of our twin city in Bath.
